Ramada Encore, Leicester

Conversion of redundant Alliance & Leicester offices into a modern 120 bed hotel. Hotel included dining, conference and meeting facilities. The M&E services include comfort cooling to all rooms, heat recovery ventilation, power & data including the hotel management system and TV distribution.

The confines of the existing building structure, which was retained, meant that the building services design had to be imaginative in its concept as the original office use did not easily lend itself to the requirements of a modern hotel environment.

Renewable energy was a major consideration and was provided by air source heat pumps to meet 14% of the overall site use in accordance with Leicester City Councils planning policy at the time.

Duties: Full detail design and site monitoring.

Kings Head Hotel, Cirencester

Renovation of an old pub into an exclusive high-end hotel.

This was an extremely challenging project as the hotel consists of some six to eight adjoining buildings, all with different floor levels and types of construction, including 16C oak framed construction. Routing of pipework and ductwork took considerable amount of time to get right. A lot of time was spent on site developing the design as new challenges were uncovered as the work progressed.

Duties: Full detail design for the M&E contractor.

Launde Abbey, Leicestershire

Conversion to conference facilities and living accommodation.

The development includes replacement of existing M&E with new high efficiency heating, boosted H&C water, power and lighting.

We were employed to review the suitability of renewable and low carbon energy sources since the remote location of the site does not allow for increasing the electrical load or gas fired heating.

Duties: Full detail design.

Hothorpe Hall, Market Harborough

BEC and Hothorpe Hall have worked together for several years to develop, replace, and renovate the M&E services in many parts of the site from sleeping accommodation, conference facilities, and offices. Our work has included monitoring electrical testing, and heating plant replacement. One project of note was replacing the main switchgear to the site. This was particularly challenging as it had to be done in a very short space of time during a shutdown of the entire site. Another was replacing the main boiler plant with new oil-fired boilers.

Duties: Varied from full detail design, to providing a professional overview of contractor’s proposals and maintenance.
